In 1825, the Antwerp adventurer Bernard Rottiers left for turbulent Greece. The Kingdom of the Netherlands had entrusted him with the task of looting artefacts from classical antiquity for a recently founded museum. But Bernard had a double agenda. Suppose he could find the remains of the famous \'Colossus of Rhodes\'... Then he would be world famous!
Bernard and his travelling companions had a hard time. Piracy and acts of war were the order of the day. The Greeks obviously did not agree with Bernard's practices. They did everything they could to prevent him from getting their national heritage across the border. When Bernard sought his fortune in Ottoman Rhodes, enough was enough. How long could Bernard wander safely over the island?
