Terug naar 1400. Het jaar waarin Klaus Störtebeker een bijna legendarische status had verworven in de Hanzestad Wismar. Als beroepspiraat was hij al jaren de schrik van de Noord- en Oostzee. Samen met zijn broeders plunderde hij vele schepen, om de kostbare buit vervolgens met de inwoners van Wismar te delen.
Prima kerel zou je denken, maar de top van de Hanze dacht daar anders over. Het moest maar eens afgelopen zijn met die criminele praktijken van Klaus. Om van hem af te komen besloten ze een flinke prijs op zijn hoofd te zetten. Klaus was in één klap van een held een voortvluchtige geworden. Voor behoud van lijf en leden moest hij maken dat hij wegkwam.
