Welkom in Potsdam! Stap in de schoenen van Friedrich, een prins die zijn hart verloren heeft aan poëzie en de Franse taal. Een enorme teleurstelling voor zijn vader, soldatenkoning Frederik Willem I. Die ziet zijn zoon liever marcheren, met wapens omgaan en bier drinken. De relatie tussen vader en zoon staat al langere tijd op scherp en komt tot ontploffing als de koning lucht krijgt van Friedrichs plan…
Samen met zijn goede vrienden Hans en Peter is de prins namelijk van plan om naar Engeland te vluchten. De koning is woest en Friedrich krijgt levenslang huisarrest. En alsof dat nog niet erg genoeg is wordt zijn vriend Hans op lugubere wijze voor zijn ogen onthoofd. De prins kan niet anders dan zijn vader gehoorzamen. Tot vandaag! Hij is ongezien uit het paleis geslopen. Lukt het Friedrich om uit de stad te verdwijnen en in vrijheid verder te leven?
