The Story of Lübeck
Eind 1806 kwam Joachim Murat, de zwager van Napoleon Bonaparte, aan de macht in de Duitse hanzestad Lübeck. In een poging zichzelf aan de ‘Keizer der Fransen’ te bewijzen draaide Murat volledig door. Zo waren de vrouwen in Lübeck niet veilig als hij in de buurt was, en was hij ervan overtuigd dat de gebeurtenissen in zijn leven werden veroorzaakt door bovennatuurlijke krachten.
Al snel werd duidelijk dat de bevolking beter af was met de man die Murat uit de stad had verdreven (overigens ook geen lieverdje). Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher gaf gehoor aan de oproep en trommelde zijn vijftienduizend manschappen op om richting de stad te vertrekken. Dit was voor Murat het teken om zich uit de voeten te maken!
