The Story of Florence
In de 15e eeuw is de invloedrijke familie De’ Medici aan de macht in Florence. Naast handel drijven en hard werken is de familie groot liefhebber van kunst en sponsoren ze veel kunstenaars. Kleinzoon Lorenzo I de’ Medici gaat zelfs zover dat hij beeldhouwer en schilder Michelangelo Buonarotti in zijn huis laat wonen en werken.
Op 8 april 1492 blaast Lorenzo zijn laatste adem uit, in het bijzijn van de Dominicaanse monnik en Lorenzo’s beschermeling Girolamo Savonarola. En daarmee komt er ook een einde aan de verheerlijking van kunstenaars. Want Savonarola begint een ware heksenjacht op alles wat met kunst te maken heeft. Ook huisgenoot Michelangelo is zijn leven niet meer zeker… De kunstenaar herinnert zich dat Lorenzo weleens over een geheime uitgang heeft gesproken. Maar waar was die ook alweer?
