In 1275 werden de Moren verslagen door de koning van Portugal, Alfons III. Maar in Évora kregen de monniken steeds meer de macht. Toen de monniken zelfs een eigen leger gingen opzetten was de maat voor Alfons vol. Dinis, de zoon van de koning werd naar de stad gestuurd om orde op zaken te stellen.
De monniken waren hier uiteraard niet blij mee en verzonnen een sluw plan om de prins de stad uit te werken. Ze wisten dat Dinis gruwelde van alles wat met de dood te maken had, dus groeven ze wat botten op en maakten er weer skeletten van. In het holst van de nacht bezorgden ze Dinis zo de schrik van zijn leven. De prins twijfelde geen moment en maakte dat hij wegkwam. Althans, dat was de bedoeling...
