The Story of Bergen
Het is Kerstmis 1664 wanneer er een grote handelsvloot van de VOC aan de lange reis terug naar huis begint. De schepen zijn volgeladen met specerijen, zijde, parels en diamanten. De totale waarde wordt geschat op meer dan elf miljoen gulden! Om de kostbare vracht te beschermen tegen de vijandige Engelsen, besluit de VOC via het neutrale Bergen te varen.
De schepen zijn al een aantal maanden onderweg als de Engelsen lucht krijgen van de rijkdom aan boord. Deze vracht willen ze maar al te graag hebben! De VOC schakelt de hulp in van admiraal Michiel de Ruyter voordat op 12 augustus de Slag in de Baai van Bergen losbarst. De admiraal is al in de stad, maar moet nu zo snel mogelijk terugkeren naar zijn vloot. Hoe komt De Ruyter snel en ongezien bij zijn schepen?
