The argument over the production of his famous Eau de Cologne had already escalated, but for him to tell their competitors that Johann is the only one with the secret formula? That is a deadly blow / a fatal stab (a direct death blow).
Cologne's biggest perfumers have declared him an outlaw – if Johann does not surrender the formula voluntarily, they will seize it by force.
